Shedding Your Corporate Skin

It sounds like the dream - leaving behind the corporate world to forge your own path. Throwing off the shackles of the nine to five work week and run your life from a beach in Costa Rice! The desire to leave the corporate world can be driven by many aspects, whether it is for improved work life balance, to do something you are passionate about or the desire to build something from scratch.

As part of my new podcast scheme, cunningly called Shedding the Corporate Skin, myself and Ali (a life coach) have been reflecting on our journey out of the corporate world as well as starting to interview others who have made the leap.

It’s fascinating having the discussions and how many similar themes come up with our guests. From the restrictions they felt within their corporate role to being forced to suppress their own personalities for their work, there’s a lot of similarities. All have gone on a similar journey to us when they started to think about leaving the corporate world. Eventually they reached the conclusion in their own minds and got to that trigger point where it was now or never.

Ali and I distilled down five aspects or phases we went through whilst thinking of Shedding Our Corporate Skin.

  • Seeds and Nags

  • Passion and Purpose

  • The Perfect Time

  • Hello Fear

  • Pulling the Trigger

We explore all of these aspects in the first series of our podcast as well as sharing our own stories. Leaving the safety of the corporate world is not for the faint of heart but is often more of a calling for those that do it. Many can no longer work within the restrictions that are imposed within the corporate world and want to be true to themselves. They are passionate about helping other people or building their own community.

We are seemingly all driven by a desire to ‘DO IT OUR WAY’.
