My Blog Challenge

When I set out at the start of July to complete my challenge of doing a blog post every working day, I certainly didn’t realise what I was getting into.

So, here are five things I’ve learnt at the end of this challenge.

  1. I have lots to talk about - My biggest worry at the start of the challenge was that I wouldn’t be able to come up with enough ideas to fill the month. What I realised is I have loads I can talk about from money itself, to lifestyle, to planning and many more technical areas.
  2. The blogs you think are the best are the ones no one cares about (and vice versa) - I wrote a couple of blogs that I thought loads of people would like, especially my favourite ‘Why Your Pension is Awesome’. Turns out no one really cared. The lesson is to not get too hung up on what you think is good. Produce the content and people will read the ones they want.
  3. People want to learn more about financial planning - I have lots of views for different blogs so there is definitely a desire for information out there. Interestingly, the ones that got the most views were the ‘50 Questions You Were Too Embarrassed to Ask’ blogs.
  4. Writing a blog every day is hard work - It is a time consuming effort, especially the more technical ones. It can be challenging to make them concise.
  5. Money can be confusing - As I was writing a number of my blogs, I realised why dealing with finances can be so off putting for people, not to mention confusing. There are so many aspects, products and other things to be aware of which makes it difficult to navigate. It is understandable why people sometimes don’t know where to start.

I hope the blogs have been helpful for those that have read them. Moving forward I plan to do a blog post once a week, which for a start will be much less time consuming for me. However, it will allow me to refine the content more and hopefully make it more valuable to the readers.

I have lots of ideas for future blog posts so watch this space.
